Amsterdam-based artist Joep Mencke continues the subtle introduction of his forthcoming debut album, as he unveils another single from ‘Unalome’. The LP is inspired by the Buddhist path to enlightenment, with singular emotions represented as individual tracks within the album.

Released on Dutch imprint Klassified on 16th September, Mencke’s ‘Sabda’ represents the emotion of ‘Peace’. Instantly soothing, it’s another exhibition of Joep’s storytelling ability and boundless musicality. Riding alongside its tenderly undulating chorus of cadent rhythmic instruments, ‘Sabda’ features a positively introspective smattering of softly-plucked and sweeping tonal elements - whilst also creating a soundscape reminiscent of night flight through a desert sky.

Speaking of his forthcoming debut album, Joep says: “Everything in this world, every object, every thought, every emotion, consists of frequencies or waves of energy. We perceive the world as if it is made of separate entities, while in fact it is an interplay of frequencies. This means that our consciousness is constantly affected by its surroundings, and in return that the frequencies of our consciousness are constantly affecting our surroundings. When we are feeling happy or sad, this energy is affecting our surroundings.

“Unalome is a journey through frequencies and their corresponding emotions and highlights the interplay between sound and consciousness. The album focuses on using music as a tool for exploration and transformation.”
